'95 4WD, Auto 4runner:
i've read up on a bunch of previous threads about this exact thing and it still seems like there's not really a clear solution. after i get anywhere above 50mph and then let off the gas, at a certain point in the pedal there's a nasty grinding/vibration and it only happens at a certain depression of the pedal. when i get back on the gas, at the same point, it does it again. its obvious that the axle is shifted slightly right from the body, but it sounds like some have said the panhard drop bracket will solve this problem, then others that say it won't do anything. the noise really sounds pretty bad, and i'm getting ready to drive 2400 miles between boulder, nashville, dallas, and back to boulder in the next month....so i'd really like to find a solution to this problem before having it grind for that many miles. thanks in advance.

*is a t-case crossmember drop bracket an option? my roommate's got that on his jeep and i figure that would at least help the angle a little. eventhough its not aligning the pumpkin and t-case laterally, it would help the vert. angle

yah it seems to be on a pretty individual basis cause i've heard from guys that have done this same lift with no problems and other that have had it happen. i don't think its something that's a really serious prob., but def. something that needs to be taken care of.

Have not had any problems myself. Could there be a new rubbing issue with your tires since the axle has shifted over a bit?

 

its definitely not the tires. the rear axle is only maybe an inch over to the right and its a metal on metal grinding noise. I'm almost positive its something with the driveshaft, like the u-joints, i just don't know what i need to do to fix it.

 

Indeed I am replying to an old thread, get over it!

Reason being, I've been searching for answers to the same question. So please help! My truck sounds like a friggin plane about to take off when I hit 50mph. I'm fairly sure it's driveline related. Will the panhard drop cure this or is it just more money thrown around? If it will help, where can I get a decent deal on one?

Sounds like your driveshaft is grinding against your gas tank. This will sometimes happen to me if my suspension droops just right, but I have downey coils. As with you, a panhard bar drop would fix this problem. Take a look at your gas tank and driveshaft and see if you have some scrape marks.

 

I don't think this is it for a couple of reasons:
First of all, there are no marks on the shaft or on the gas tank skid.
Secondly, this is when I'm driving down the interstate (ie no significant suspension flex)

This really is annoying though, as it vibrates the whole truck.

My answer now is: I have no clue.


I agree with mastacox, it may be your driveshaft grinding against your gas tank. You can take a pair of pliers or vise-grips and bend up or down that piece of the gas tank that hits the drive shaft. I have the panhard drop and I did the bending, so no rubbing at all.

FYI, my panhard rod was a PITA! The bolt was melted onto the rubber bushing. I had to torch it off and replaced it with a shock bushing. My 4th of July weeked was literally torched! Arrrghh.
