Looking at an 84 pickup

Tomorrow im going to check out an 84 pickup its from Texas so its suposed to be rust free, althought it doesnt take long with all the salt they dump on the roads up here in Maine. The motor (22r) was rebult 50,000 miles ago and a new 5 speed tranny thre are 250,000 on the truck. He has 33"s on it now but i guess hes taking thoes off before he sells it. I'm assuming it has some sort of lift. What should i look for, any problem areas on these trucks? And what is a reasionable price to offer?

For a price I would just goto Kelly Blue Book and check their suggested price for the truck.

Is that it is there anything on the drive train that wears quick that i should check? its 4x4 with the straight axle, will a lift kit put more stress on specific parts?

out of curiousity is it a blue, single cab, from baytown?
It's a long shot.. but that would be a wicked guess if I was right.
And if it is.. that truck is sweet.

main things to check are to listen for a rattly timing chain(might need replacement), transmission whining in 5th and 3rd, and gear oil leaks in the front axle knuckles(you'll know it if its leaking, there'll be a nasty smelling sludge stuck to the insides of the front tires and splattered around).

the first 2 are expensive fixes to have a shop do, timing chain can be done without too much trouble if you're mechanically inclined and the tranny is usually best done by a rebuilder. the axle seal leak is usually from a blown inner axle seal or worn knuckle wipers, and can be rebuilt fairly easily with a $90 kit.

other that that, they're pretty bulletproof trucks.
