ok. i think this is a good tech question...

i just want to know what engines fit a 96 sr5 auto 2wd?

if i were looking for a long block, can i used any 3.4 out of any 4runner/tacoma? will my harness plug in etc? what years? what about other 2wd/4wd/5spd combinations? oh, what about the camry/solara 3.4? i hear its uses the same TRD supercharger...any chance theyre the same motor or at least will work? (sorry..dont know the engine code on the cars)

and i'm thinking about going with a 3.4 mated with a 5spd (srunner maybe?) what do you guys think are my options. any feedback input or anything would be great. also, off hand who may do a 5spd conversion and/or any other engine conversions? (ive heard of v8's and 2g runners with supra motors...)

im asking because i blew my motor so i cant just sell the auto and buy a 5spd! just looking for all my engine/tranny options

pretty much all thats a limit is your wallet...but in reality a supra swap, or small V8s will fit (also other yota v8s will) as far as I know any 3.4 block will work it just comes down to sensors on various years and obd-2 stuff. I'm not to sure about that as my truck doesn't have any of that with the 3.0

They quit making CRX's in 1991 in the USA. They lived on in other countries as the car we know as the "del sol". So did you import a true 92 CRX or was it just a del sol? Got pics?

From what I have heard you need to stick with the same year and model unless you get the ECU and tranny from the donor truck also. So I'd say stick with a 96 2wd auto unless you want to go the hard way and have a wiring/computer headache. ORS have even said there were changes within some year's production line. "It is extremely important that all parts are purchased from the same donor vehicle. When doing an automatic transmission 3.4L conversion, all parts will need to come from a 3.4L donor vehicle with an automatic transmission. Toyota made changes to the electronics, sensors, and wiring configurations every year and to every model within each year. This makes it nearly impossible to match parts from different donor vehicles. Properly matching parts is also necessary for Off Road Solutions to provide conversion kits and wiring harnesses that function properly. Once again, purchase all the donor parts FROM THE SAME VEHICLE."

On second thought, maybe you could just remove all the sensors from your old motor and use them in the new one. I don't know all the differences between the 2wd vs 4wd or the auto vs manual enough to help there though.

thanks for the info mt...hmmm..that complicates things and narrows the motors available to me at any given time. that sucks. now, i understand thats for a conversion. do you think just swapping the sensors would be all thats needed? hmmm..rhetorical question, i know you mentioned u didnt know the little details on it...thanks for that info tho! does anyone know the differences?

i dont need to do any conversion. i really just want to get my truck running when it comes down to it. so i seriously have to look for a 96-2wd sr5 auto?! dam...i was at least hoping for a new lower milage motor!

oh hey adam, good eye! slip of the fat fingers. youre absolutely right. we got the del sol, the rest of the world called it the 3g crx. (and del sols were anything but a great followup to the crx imho..too heavy and flexed too easily) mine was a 91 CRX! i'll change it...

I used to have a 91 CRX. I loved that little car!
