Air Intake question w/ PIC
I noticed the same gunk in my throttle body also in my intake tube. It seems to come from the return hose (from TB to tube) and go all the way the the MAF end of the tube. It wasn't an extreme amount. I'm just woundering if this is normal and what causes it. thanks

To me it looks like "blow by oil" and I think it is coming from your PVC valve. you can try replacing the valve and a full tune up to help prevent it

Actually the PCV valve on this motor vents after the throttle body. But, I agree, this is crankcase ventilation blow-by. Just not from the PCV valve per se. It is normal, and all of my (5) 5VZ-FE engines I have owned have had this happen.

thanks for your responses guys. Can you tell me what "blow by" is? Seems like I don't have to worry about it, but I love learning about all this.

Well.... as the eng turn and fires some of the combustion gases from the cyl/pistons gets by the rings and valves and into the block and head. the PVC or positive crankcase ventilation removes these gases, but the turning crank shaft churns the oil pretty good and it form tiny drop that become airborne with the gas...all of this has been come to know by blow by gases and the oil in them blow by oil.....when the gases collect and cool the oil collects as well....after some time you get what you have...simple cleaning to remove the oil build up ....and all is well....
