I just noticed today that when my truck was in neutral with the Ebrake on I could slightly rotate my drive shaft. Do your guy's truck do this also? I am a bit concerned that my gears that I recently put in were not setup correctly and I want to know if I should take em out or not.

You'll be able to rotate the driveshaft a little back-and-forth when the trans is in neutral. I've never changed the ring and pinion, but the rotational "slop" has been there a long time.

 

your just feeling the play between the axle splines and differential gears, how far can you turn it?

 

maybe a half an inch? Im not exactly sure.

 

I dont think its the play between the splines but I could be wrong. On the 3rd that I just pulled out I can hold the ring gear and slightly turn the pinion flange. Before I put the 4.88 3rd in I could hold the ring gear and turn the pinion flange quite a bit more. What is this play called? Is it gonna mess up my 4.88's?

It seems now with these gears in, there is a klunking noise that I can hear when I push the clutch in going up a hill or something that puts a little more tension on the driveshaft. I can also make the klunk when I a crusing and I lightly tap that gas a few times. Im worried....
