Any word on Steve's SAS project? Bumper on yet?

I was just wondering if there were any more project updates, since the last i read, the bumper wasn't on yet, and there were still some kinks to work out. I'm sure alot has happened, and i was really interested in how the progress was going. Thanks

It's done and I have wheeled it 3 times.

Next up is a rear leaf swap. The links at 4.5" of lift are OK, but could be better.

Leafs will work better for me since a pull a trailer once a week.

steve, are you going SUA in the rear? if not, are you going to build a traction bar or are you not worried about axle wrap at all?

Spring under, it won't need a traction bar. Spring over would.

Well to be honest with you SAS'ing your 87 would not be that hard, the 3rd Gen's/1st Gen Tacoma's are considerably harder.

Take a welding class at you local community college and look for an 84-85 Toyota SA. In time, you can do it.

Just make sure you have a good solid 220V welder, some formal instruction and the axle fully rebuilt and ready to go.

A good industrial grinder also really helps.

Actually already took the class, and am currently designing and building a front bumper for my brothers 87 PU. It's taking me a while, but i'm learning slowly. I am still saving for the welder, but since i just went broke getting 4.88's and a LSD, that's going to take a while. I actually have 2 D44's sitting at my parents house that are in good shape, so if i ever do a SAS, those are probably what i would use. I've just never wheeled anything that my IFS couldn't get me up yet. I always get stopped way before that by my open diffs, or my lack of gearing, or just plain driver inexperience. In time, perhaps. Actually i've wanted to meet you and Flytenstein (man, i have no idea how to spell that) for a while, but i doubt you'd want to stay on the bunny trails. So far wheeler lake is about all i can do. Maybe with the gears and LSD, but still, nothing like your pics show. But, i ramble... Adios.

Well, I'll see you in Colorado in August. Maybe you can come with us to Moab in October then.

When are you coming in August? October would be sweet, but I'll have to see around school. All I've been on in Moab is Poison Spider, Fins, and Metal Masher, but couldn't do Widowmaker, and didn't even attempt rock crusher. That was in my Dad's 97, not mine, so we'll see. I'm young and inexperienced, but eager to learn so thank you for inviting me.
