I'm putting a motor form an automatic 3.0L in my manual 3.0L

My lovely haynes manual says to mark the flywheel before removal to make sure it is installed correctly.

but If I install it on another vehicle, how do I know how to correctly line it up?

once this flywheel goes on, then the motor goes in, so I'm kind of frustrated that I didn't think of this earlier

 

theres a key it has to go on, only one way it can go.

 

Just to let you know automatics have flex plates manuals have flywheels

 

I know that's why I said that I'm putting an automatic motor in my manual truck.

to do this I will need to install the flywheel form the old motor onto the new (to me) motor that had a flex plate on it an hour ago.

just put the new rear main seal and was about to pop the flywheel on (I've already removed the flex plate to get to the rear main seal) when I decided it might be good to read the manual to make sure everything is correct.

DWH91102 - I'm not sure I follow you on the key. there is a plate that that mounts between the flywheel and the back of the crankshaft that has a dowel pin, but between that plate and the flywheel, you could mount it any way you please.

 

im sorry I didn't read close enough I thought you said harmonic balancer, as for the flywheel I've rebuilt 3 3.0's and have never worried how the flywheel went back on and have never had any problems.

 

awsome thanks, now I've just got to find those stupid flywheel bolts for some reason they are not in the nut & bolt tray organizer that I have

 

the flywheel is balanced separately, so there is no issue on which way it goes on. When I swapped out my engine, I too had gotten an automatic as a replacement, so I needed to add the pilot bearing and swap the flex plate out.

 

i haven't heard of an externally balanced toyota engine so far, so i think you should be safe. i'm pretty sure that the flywheel only goes on one way too.

i swapped an auto engine into my truck, it was nice to not have to mangle up the old pilot bearing to install my new one
