Do you think i went overboard

I took my truck to the dealer for the 15k service. I supplied them with the oil and filter and informed them they did not have to change the air filter seeing i have a K&N Intake kit. I also asked them to do service the tranny and fluĊĊĊĊ and service the differential. The service writer looked at me like i was nuts. I do alot of short trips and 90% of my driving is street driving....lots of shifting for the tranny. I figured rather be safe then sorry. Think i did too much?

( and i was happy to find out that i have 90% left on my brakes still )

Edit: I have a 2003 Tacoma PreRunner Doublecab 3.4 v6 Auto Tranny

MAJOR SERVICE ? A diff fuild change and oil change are "MAJOR SERVICE"

This is stuff you should be doing yourself.

Agreed.

If you want something done right, do it yourself.
Its the only way to know EXACTLY what you are getting.

Dang you guys don't trust the dealership too much at all. Anyways, I would say you went too much with the differential and tranny service. When I'm working, we are required to check just about everything on a vehicle for 2 reasons: GM dealer requirements and for a sale. I've not recommended an early diff. service but once and it was because the driver obviously drove through some deep water and the diff fluid was white (the whole underbody was caked in mud) but it was an important deal for warranty too.

IMO it is better to play it safe.
Definately(sp) too early on the trans, but that is about right on the diff service.
A tech at Toyota looked at my like I was crazy when I flushed my trans and replaced filter @ 70K miles.
Then again, I also replaced the timing belt and Water pump @ 72K!!
Go figure....

Way overboard, at 15k the owners manual probably lists lube/oil/filter and that's it. You really should not need anything other than that at 15k. Follow your manual's service schedule and you will be fine, the Toyota Engineers who came up with it know your vehicle's design better than the dealer wrench monkeys.

nope definately not.. i used to work for a tire/lube place... and i never did but a lot of the guys i worked woth did some shady stuff to customers cars... well we did a lot of stuff with the local dealerships, and their technicians made the shady stuff my guys did look like the best techs in the world! i would trust the shady work of my coworkers more than i would ever trust a dealship... they are kings of shade..... and a ford dealership technician asked how one of our tire techs how to lower his mustang.... i was like um, and this guy is a ford mechanic?

Well like it was said, better safe then sorry. I have no poroblem dropping the money into it like that seeing i only have to on average every 2 years if i keep up with the 15k ritual. Some may call it a waste but oh well, like i said not a bad expense after 2years.

To me a diff and and trans service is major, so it goes to them.

You know that "major diff service" involves removing a drain/fill plug and pouring oil, that's all.
