I don't know, but when I flushed mine I used 2 quarts (that's 64 oz). That was just turning once from lock to lock.

thanks mt goat.

that's good info. do you think i should assume 2 quarts for the system then? if at all, it shouldn't be much more than that, no? unless i misunderstand the flush process ....

I don't know if I would assume that. What are you doing replacing the steering box or something? The FSM may have capacities on that: Here is the 93 Truck FSM: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...fsm/index.html

Keep in mind Toyota calls for ATF not PS fluid in that.

Sorry, didn't mean to yell so loud.

actually i'm adding some auto-rx to, hopefully, cure an ailing system -- it leaks a little bit.

i've had good results with this stuff in my engine, so on to the next thing.

ever heard of it? thanks for all your responses!

btw: the reason i need to know the quantity is b/c the instructions are to add 1oz auto-rx per quart of power steering fluid -- in this case, auto trans fluid...

btw: btw: according to the FSM, the total capacity of the system is 400cc or 24.4 cubic inches ... that's only 0.4-ish quarts .... this can't be right, can it?

That is for the gear oil in the steering box.

If you have leaks the best thing is this: http://members.cox.net/stacewilliams/ps-pump.htm

But don't assume that part # is for your truck, mine pump took a different part #, call the parts dept and give them your vin # to be sure.

thanks for the great link, mt goat.

still, i'd like to give the auto rx route a try; i've already bought it and it's just sitting there on my shelf and, like i said, i've gotten really good results in my engine with it.

i thought that the manuals (haynes, etc.) would simply list the total fluid quantities for all systems but to my surprise no.

gotta find out! thanks again for all your input. it may conclude with my just rebuilding the pump, but i can't tell where it's leaking from yet.

Yeah I couldn't tell where mine was leaking from either, it was just one big mass of oil soaked dirt. It must have been leaking for years before the drips started hitting the garage floor. I replaced all the seals and o-rings that came in the seal kit and no more leaks. The hardest part for me was getting the pump pulley off (rusted on) and cleaning up all the crud from the outside of the pump and engine bay.

guys, what type of atf are you using in there? I added a couple ounces of ps fluid to mine the other day :pat:

edit: ok I found on another post Dexron III ATF. But now that I think about it, the ps fluid I added seemed to be the same color as what's already in there. wouldn't the atf be more red than the oil colored ps fluid?

I'm using Mobil 1 ATF. I don't know anything about PS fluid.
