Full 3rd gen including door jams A color change would be nice

 

That really depends on how much you are wanting to spend. I would think a good paint job, to change colors and all, would cost over a grand. Probably a lot more depending on the quality of paint and detail of bodywork.

 

haha way over a grand..you can get a junko maaco paintjob for
$500...something decent be prepared to spend 1500-2000 OR if you dont mind downtime there are many local schools that will paint your vehicle for free if you buy the paint. It takes awhile and htey will do a good job...if they dont give a good job they paint it again which is why they take it for so long

 

Easily in the low thousands. A good paint job will have prep, masking, etc, and also have base and clear (urethane) coats. A lesser quality paint will use single stage (enamel) paint and probably cost less than a thousand if there is not much body work to be done.

 

A "good" profesional paint job that's better than stock will start at about $2,000. That will get you a show truck finish for a solid color. Goes up or down from there depending on what you are looking for.

 

Had a paint job that cost over 6,000.. But for a toyota I would spend between 1,000-1,500 if that.

 

yeah, easily $2000 for a color change and to hit all the door jams. don't forget that you can't really do anything about a color change under the hood, so you may want to stick w/ the same color.

for the same color on the exterior, you could probally get a good akzo sikkens base and clear for about $1500-$1800 depending on where you live.

good quality isn't cheap...

 

I guess it's true that a "Chameleon" paint job can easily cost upwards of $12,000 than.

Sure depends on what you want. All the above are spot on. To change color and do it right there is a ton of labor involved aside from the painting itself. A "good" paint job will run 2 to 3 grand. Mine was well over 10 grand. But then, it was a little more involved than most...

 

Well what if I just want Chyna airbrushed on the hood?

 

So for one of these $2000 paint jobs, say to a completely different color, where would you still see the origianl color?
Underneath the hood and engine bay? Inside the side mirrors? Underneath the door jam molding?

 

A friend of mine just had his done at a local body shop well known for there work. He went from Green to black and it cost him $1700.00 . They really did a great job and it looks better than factory. You can look it over anywhere you want and you will not see any green in even in the smallest tight spots.
Keep in mind that prices will be much cheaper here than say Calif. Wages and prices for everthing are much lower. Mike

 

a maaco? oh you mean a crappo paintjob. down here in Tx they (maaco) advertise on the tube for $300 paintjobs.

 

I work part time at a body shop and a color change properly done and clear coated (which some people seem to forget you need) will easily go over $2000 but you'll get something that'll last similar to the factory job maybe longer.

 

have any of you ever seen the $300 maco job, all i got to say is you better have that car ready for paint when you take it there, because they spray it and get it out the door. Windows, tires , mud it don't matter its gettin paint. Its like a car wash that sprays paint instead of water

 

I was curious about this too. I just want to get mine repainted black, get rid of all the swirl marks and bad touchups that the guy before me did...but overall its not in THAT bad of shape. I'm taking it to a guy next week to see what they can do about the swirls and the lack of shine the paint has. He may do some wetsanding for me too on those bad touch up spots.

I could probably even go for a new paint job minus the door jams, I can't imagine the blacks would be too different in shade.

My buddy got his '91 F-150 regular cab long bed truck repainted black and it ended up costing him in excess of 8k...how is that possible?

WOW! That would get you a very nice custom paint job with the finest paints and hand rubbed and all that, including the labor to strip the vehicle and put it back together. That's a lot of money for a regular paint job. Especially since a 91 F150 is worth about 3 or 4 grand...
