Factory alarm/keyless entry box- fix or replace?

My truck ( 96 4R base, 4 cyl, 4wd) doesn't have many creature comforts but it is equiped with a "factory" keyless entry/alarm system. Problem is, it doesn't work. The P/O initially told me that the batteries in the remote units were just dead and need replacing, but that wasn't it.

Anyone here with experience w/this issue? Will I just need to buy a replacement from the dealer? Any way to fix that box that sits under the driver's seat? I know nothing about these things.

Thanks!

Carl

Carl,

I am no expert.. but it may just be that the system has to get re-programed, I'm almost sure you could take it to the dealer and they would do it free of charge. you could call a dealer and ask.

Hope it works out for you

Eric

I wonder whether the system is kind of like some car radios with security and has to be reset/reprogrammed is the battery is disconnected?
Anyone been down this road before?
Thanks,
Carl
