My girlfriend is getting a used (great deal) Subaru Forester. since I'm always talking smack about how great this site is for me and my T100, I need to find one for the subaru. Any suggestions?

the only half decent one that i've found is http://forums.nasioc.com it's mainly an impreza forum, but they do have places for other models. i have a legacy, so i don't get much out of an impreza froum. overall, the forum isn't that great, most of the conversation is kinda ricey. the tech knowledge over there isn't nearly as good as here.

There are lots others as well, but these sites all have forester sections, and a forester is basically an Impreza anyway. I think subaru invented the phrase "parts interchangablity".

yeah, all those websites are good. my friend is constantly on nasioc.com

as for the "I think subaru invented the phrase "parts interchangablity"
you're right. you can put pretty much anything on any of there cars. i really wish our trucks were like that. my friend has a 98 imprezza and he can even use stuff like the exaust and tons of other things from the new WRX's. plus they have so many more aftermarket parts for their cars!!!! i wish i had half the selection for my 2nd gen as they have.

I did a bunch of Subie research up until a year ago. At that time, my favorites were NASIOC, subaruforester.com, and SubDriven.

For the Forester specifically, don't overlook subaruforester.com.

How good are the subaru's really? I looked at a few for some beaters back and forth to work, and I wasn't all that impressed. They all seemed to leak oil. Is it a characturistic of the boxer motor? I hate a leaker!!

yeah i hear that the rear main goes out on the boxers all the time. i don't have any leaks, but i only have 50k on my '99.

over all i'm not terribly impressed with the quality of the subarus (especially when compared with a toyota). it's still light years ahead of most american cars, but there are rattles and finish items that aren't as good as i'd want. mechanically, the only issue i have is the clutch is almost shot. it's not that i don't know how to drive a clutch, i got 220k out of the one in my 4runner. plus a bunch of others on the news groups have complained about the clutch, but subaru won't fix it. other than the clutch, it seems pretty solid to me.

if i were to get an older one, i'd get something probably pre '95 or so. as GM keeps buying portions of fugi heavy industries the quality of the subarus keep declining.

Yamarocket...how much are you selling your scooby for?

I LOVE subarus, and would kill for a 2.5RS, WRX (even a non-STi), or a Forester XT...hopefully someday I'll have one! Those motors sound incredible...

Asking $13k. It is a lot of fun with a 300hp WRX swap.
