Roof mount antenna options

Hey, all!

I've been talking to a metal fabricator that can bend a 6" wide sheet of stainless to the contour of the roof and to the roof rack channels so that I can mount a 2-3' Firestik II without having to pop holes in the roof. I know the roof is optimal location for an antenna, but in this particular case, would there be sufficient ground plane? If it's grounded to a metal sheet and the metal sheet is bolted to the body with existing bolts, will I be okay?
