Can anyone tell if there's a Truetrac in here?
Hi guys,
I just bought this 3rd member from Demello and he says the guy that sold it to him said that there's a Detroit True trac in it. However, Demello said that its "loud" and from what I've heard, the DTT is supposed to be quiet. Upon a follow up question, he said that it clicks when you coast on the curves and knocks...and i forget the situation it does this.
To me, it sounds like a different Detroit product is in there. Maybe the EZ locker. What i don't want to do is spend needless hours to install this and find out that its not a DTT.
Here are the pics:

Bob, that isn't a Truetrac. That looks like the clutch type Toyota has used and uses in the Supra and other applications (for many years).
You can take it apart very easily and shim the spring inside to further limit slip. For off road, I would definitely do this. It doesn't limit slip all that much as it is, with the shimmed spring it's better but always far from a locker. Good on the street though.
If it was "loud", likely it was run without the lubricant addative clutch type limited slips require. Other wise, pull it apart, it is an extremely simple mechanism and you'd be able to tell quickly if something was really wrong. I'd be shocked if that were the case, they are quite robust.

Hey Frank,
Thanks for your reply. I just found little joe's write up on 4x4wire and compared his pics to mine about 20 times just to make sure. Thanks for the advice as well, but I'm not sure if I want to do that (at this point anyways)

Were buying our first house and need to get rid of some bills! I hate to sell it as you I put a ton of money into it and I'm sad to see it go but if we kept it. It would just sit in the driveway and collect dust!
