Linksys WRE54G Range Expander and Linksys WPS54G Print Server - Config Issues

I'm having issues setting these pieces up. I can't see them from my network?? Using either the setup wizard or trying to see the units via IP addresses - they just aren't showing up.

Here's what I have now:

BEFSR41 DSL Router/Switch (version 2)
WAP54G Wireless G Access Point

Trying to configure the network to see:
WRE54G Wireless G Range Expander
WPS54G Wireless G Print Server

I have been monkeying with this thing for two days now. Got the Access Point running pretty easily, but this other stuff is making me batty.

Here's what I've tried:

Leaving all defaults:
SSID = linksys
Channel 6
Security disabled
DHCP enabled

Tried changing:
The SSID
WEP 64 bit

Here's what is on my network:
Two desktops (wired), one laptop (wireless), one dedicated printer (I want the Print Server for this), and one networked printer (wireless).

If I can get this stuff running right, I plan to add one more desktop (wireless)

What should I be looking for? Is there a setting on my router or the wireless that is not letting this stuff be "seen"?

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried:

-turning off encryption?
-setting static IP's for the range extander and print server?
-changing the channel to a different one? (I use 11 since there's another network near me on 6 and they conflict.)

I hope this helps.

It should be noted that when I had everything at the default settings, I got the range expander to "work". By work, I mean i was able to get into it via a browser. The problem was it made my wireless laptop absolutely crawl on the internet. I had it about a foot from my computer at the time. As soon as I changed from the defaults, it wouldn't see the wireless network.

I have turned off the security, but I think it only helped the range expander "work" that one time.

I'll try the alternate channel - I didn't see in my laptop where I choose a different channel though

I'll try setting the static IP's for the two items using the default values. Not sure where to do this, but I'll go poke around.

OK - I got the print server working and even got the range expander to be "seen" again (through the setup CD this time!). After a short time though, I lost connectivity to the access point. I unplug the range expander from the wall and I regained access. This time I had it a good distance from my laptop and the access point. It is odd to say the least.
