water/moisture getting inside my 4Runner

It was raining like crazy here in Southern California this past week and I noticed some water got inside of my 99 4Runner. All my windows and doors were closed properly.

The inside of the windshield and driver's side window were wet and fogged up. Also, I noticed the carpeting and floor mat in front of the passenger seat were wet, not to mentioned smelled pretty bad.

Is this normal? If not, what might be the problem? What can I do to fix it? This is the third time I have noticed that this has happened.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Definatly not normal. My 98 doesn't have any leakage (not even form the sunroof) except in the (cracked) tailight, and that's not even in the car. Check all your door seals and see if there are any pinches or missing pieces. Also, if you have the sunroof, try closing the carpeted oard cover thing and see if that is wet later. Also, from where you describe the wetness, this could possibly be from your air system, maybe getting in somehow from teh intake? Lucky for us we only get this kind of (wussy- compared to the Midwest/East) rain every couple years.

This sounds like the heater core.

someone on tr4.org suggested the heater core too. how do I check that out or fix it?

I'll describe the smell, it smells like someone has been smoking in my truck.

I know I had some water on the inside of my windows from condensation (It's been parked in the cold for 3 weeks without driving) but not to the extent that the carpet is wet. The semell does lead me to think the heater core blew.
