Hi everyone. Just thought it would be cool for everyone to post grill guard pictures. I am thinking of purchasing one, and need ideas for brands and styles.

vato loco, those pics look great! I have a 4runner that looks almost exactly like yours. I was thinking the chrome would look better on my truck, cause everything else is chrome, but the black really stands out nicely! Hey, I just thought, mabye I could buy something like whats on the side of your truck, right above the running boards, for my 2000 4r sr5. It looks like plastic molding, so I should be able to buy it somewhere.

If you insist on getting the grill guard, be sure to remove the smaller bars over the headlights like I did. I burnt out 2 of my corner bulbs and removed and reinstalled twice before I learned my lesson :pat:

nice pics everyone! Has anybody here gotten into a minor accident with one of these? How much more damage can these cause? I am thinking of just getting a bull bar up front instead, I hear they actually protect the truck more in an accident, and dont cause more damage.

 

i dont think any kind of guard protects more... they do indeed create more damage.

i (knock on wood) havent tested that theory yet though.

I would get a real ARB or TJM Bullbar if I was spending that kind of money.

 

wow, I went to the TJM website, those are really nice. Now that I see that they actually crash test them, I think I will go with the TJM T1 or T3 frontal protection bars, both offer protection and an awesome look that doesnt protrude much from the truck.

 

I didn't know you could get those ones for the runner, only the T15 and T17 I thought.

 

Yea, I was just looking at them again, you are right about only the T15 and 17. I guess out of those two I would get the T15, because it has more to it than the 17. What would you guys suggest doing with the T15, leaving it plain steel or painted to match my silver, or something else? I wouldn't get the alloy, not sturdy enough.

I like the sidemarker lights you added on your 4runner, Im doing that soon on my truck too,. either that or if I can find a company that makes signal mirrors for a 2000 4runner.

 

leave it. if you're going to wheel the runner then who cares what color it is. mines mud colored most of the time. if you aren't going to add a winch later or at least wheel it then just go with a grill guard.

 

I'm noticing a trend, everyone who posted a picture has headlight guards too. That ebay one didn't have that option did it?

Put in the sidemarker lights like I did. You can't see the signal mirrors from the side, which is why I installed mine in the first place (ie merging onto the interstate or merging from the outer lane to the center lane). It's not hard to do at all, just a little scary at first but all you've got to do is practice first on a small sheet of tin (which is what you make the template out of). I think I've still got the template saved on my computer and I did a writeup on it that's in the tech section here on Yotatech. They look and perform awesome!!

Yea, Ill look into that, it does make sense what you say about merging and stuff. I know I would be completely terrified of cutting into my car like that, but as I see the outcome is awesome. Did the volkswagon bulbs have nice rubber seals so water doesn't get behind there? Exactly how big of a gap is there behind them? I hope they look as though they are supposed to be there(forming around the fender). Where exactly did you place them?(dimensions from specific parts of the vehicle. Anyone have a truck that I can practice on Well, thanks for the idea, I'm gonna look further into doing it, or just buying the lights and taking them to a body shop to have it done, then wire it up myself, seems to scary cutting into my body, but ill sleep on it. Did your truck come with those Sport Edition stickers, or did you put them on?
