Hi all,

New to this. Have a totally stock 1996 4Runner 4x4 SR5. Want to run BFG AT KO 285/75/16 on the stock rims.

What do I need in terms of minimum lift? Thinking of going OME on all four corners both shocks and springs. Can I get away without a body lift?

What other mods do I need to consider?

It's used 95% paved road driving, 20% towing 3000lb boat and/or trailer.

I just want a reliable, 'cool' looking truck, not really doing any offroading except for unpaved gravel cottage road.

To run a 285/75/16 you will need 2.5" suspension lift and pound the pinch weld on the back of the front fenders flat and maybe trim a little in the same area to run them on the street. To run them offroad you will need a 1" bodylift on top of the 2.5" if you plan on disconnecting the front swaybar. On the street you may be able to just do the 2.5" suspension lift and maybe no trimming-but I would be prepared to trim a little-I had to.

Also, I assume you have a 3.4 V6 auto? If so, 33" tires (285/75/16) and stock most likely 4.10 gears (could be 3.90, maybe 4.30) is going to be a strain with that 3000 pound boat. I would strongly suggest a good transmission cooler.

Ditto everything said above - a 2.5" suspension lift with some pounding. Look into getting a transmission cooler... it's cheap insurance.

do a search for TRD Tundra suspension. I run it. many others do to.

 

I have the OME all the way around and my 4runner looks like a drag racer. Save yourself the time and money and effort TRD Tundra coils w/ Bilstein or OME shocks up front w/ one of Bamachem's spacers. OME HD rear. I dont even have it yet and I'm preaching it like Ive been running it for years. Do the search...Everything you need is right there.
