OK guys, I have an ARB on the way and the plan as of now is to install it myself.

After talkin to several 3rd genners they have mentioned something about cutting off stock bumper brackets in order for the ARB to fit. I am just wondering if this applies for 2nd genners also, if so I will need to get a grinder and a cut-off disc.

And then just as a side not, if there are any helpful hints or useful tricks to installing these suckers I would really appreciate it if you clued me in on them...stuff I can do to make it easier. I already have a second person so thats no big deal, but anything else would really be helpful. Thanks guys!

Take off all the stuff on the front of the truck. It should come off in one piece. Then hold up the ARB. Fill all holes with supplied bolts.

I found the best way doing it completely solo was to hold it in place with my thighs pushing against the truck and then loosely stick the stock bolts that are used on the side in. Get one side, then slide it over.

I think I had to take those cup looking spacers of the bottom in the first pic for it to fit but they are only bolted on.

So I need to take the upper grill part off too? Can I not just take the bumper and valence off? That upper part looks like a b*tch to take off cause of all the clips and stuff at the top of the chrome grill.

I dont know but I had to install my horns as well so that's whi I did.

Ya just tell Simon, that Victor sent you. He's a good guy. Gave me my ARB for my Landcruiser $660, so yours should be cheaper. Only thing is that you have to go pick it up.

Just a thought, but is it the same if you will be winching. I thought I read somewhere that you had to do some sort of reinforcement on the 2nd gen runners so that the winch wouldn't rip the bumper off. Is that right?

 

Alright well I'm hopin that I just have to take the bumper and valence off, not the whole girll assembly. I'll just wait until I get it so I can read the instructions and really find out what I've gotten myself into.

It is purely bolt on.

Take off the bumper and valence, bolt on the ARB. No cutting, no welding, just bolting. It is plenty strong, I have tugged until my 9500 winch was near stalling.

For those of you that have ARB bumpers on a 2nd gen..... I have a pair of PIAA 80 pro lights that are 7 5/8" from the base of the mounting point to the top of the light. Will these fit in the location provided by ARB or will the top of the lights hit the center bar. I'm about the order an ARB winch bumper for my truck and I would like to know if I'm going to be able to use my existing lights.

Just an update for everybody else, the bumper is on, only the grill and valence had to come off and it was purely bolt-on as everybody else has said, and MAN does it look good!!

As for the strength issue, I believe it was on the newer models that they are having so much trouble and need some extra re-inforcement. Though you can NEVER have too much of it. Thats why I'm content on having friends with winches instead of having my own. I never wheel alone so its not that big of a priority. Plus all the added weight, my coils are compacted enough

Though I must say, they do look pretty bad ass...

My ARB winch bumper arrived today . Do you have to mount the winch on the bumper first and then manhandle it onto the truck or can you put the winch on after the bumper to make things a bit easier?

 

It may actually be easier to mount the winch to the bumper first but I'm not sure, there is a write-up that Brian (waskillywabbit) did when he mounted his to his old 3rd gen, you may want to check that out (www.drawhorn.org) and see what he says there.
