The 3.4 uses two different types of spark plugs for the driver and passenger side which are Denso and NGK. I'm sure you can pick them up at the dealer. Look here: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/mainte...ep3.html#plugs

In regards to the two brands of plugs, I think toyota simply puts the spark plugs into the heads before final engine assembly. And the two heads that the guy/robot grabbed off of the rack while putting the engine together came from two different lots and therefor two different brands of plug.

Yeah, you don't have to buy three of each kind. Just get a full set of either the NGKs or Nippon Densos and you'll be fine.

I even have a sticker under my hood specifically stating to use dual electrode plugs(NGK's). They are supposively the plugs used on the passenger side under the coil packs. I'm going to change mine soon and will see what plugs the dealer has for the 3.4.

Dual electrode or two different types of plugs for each side, or both?

Clearly the 5VZ requires dual electrode, however, the two different types of plugs thing is completely foreign to Phoenix area dealers...sounds like an unnecessary complication to me.

Just picked some plugs up from the dealer and there was only one plug listed for the 3.4. They are dual electrode Densos. I will have to see what plugs come out of mine. Anyone try using 1/4" fuel line to thread in the new spark plugs like it shows on the 4x4wire writeup or Haynes manual? It's supposed to help not strip the threads in the head.

the dude at the counter didnt read the dealers coupon carefully when i purchased the plugs. In the $1.50 coupon in small print, iridiums not included but when i printed it out on my el cheapo printer, you could hardly read the print. I didnt realize i had iridiums when i got home.
