1985 toyota truck w/ blown headgasket...

I found a 1985 4x4 truck w/ a blown head gasket. They are asking 1,000 for it. Is it worth buying to fix and just wheel it? They said it has the 22re in it is that true or is the 22r? Thanks any info helps.

P.S. are head gaskets hard to replace? How much?

how's the condition of the rest of the truck? if it's good i'd say it's not a bad deal if you're mechanically inclined. both the 22R and 22RE were available until '87 or so in 4x4s(EFI was an option)

the head gasket is easy to replace, you just unbolt the intake and exhaust manifolds, unbolt the head, clean it up and put a new one on. i'd imagine it's kind of tedious with the engine in the truck, though

if the rest of the truck is in good shape then id say its worth it, i bought my 85 4runner for $1200 and it had a blown head gasket, but there isnt a spec of rust on it and everything works on it.

22r= carb, 22re = fuel injection.

Head gaskets are not hard to replace. The thing that people need to keep in mind is that you should get the surface of the head check to make sure it is not warped. If it is you will just blow the new gasket. If you get the little bugger apart to replace the hear gasket you may as well replace the timing set while you are in there. I've picked up more than my share of Toys cheap because of broked timing chain guides.

If the suspension,frame,interior & body is pretty good to last for another couple years.The tires,rims,motor is easy to replace.Buy it if you can afford to repair & replace what is needed to make it run.
