Help Me Move My Mirror Please

Heres the prob.

I just got a new dashlight (twin strobes for firefighting job) and I need to mount it to the windshield, brackets and suction cups included. Because of its size, the only safe space is in the middle, as high us as possible, like with the bracket almost touching the headliner. The unit is too deep however for my rear view mirror to clear it. How can I remove and remount/replace my mirror to the map light hump on the headliner. It looks like If I removed the mirror, I could just screw it into the plastic of the hump but I don't know how to take it off, or if there is a bunch of wires in the hump to worry about hitting.

I wouldn't be opposed to a whole new mirror if it were cheap and sturdy either.

Anybody have any ideas? Thanks,

Lamm

lamm,

i have no idea about 2nd gens but look thru my write up http://www.4runners.org/articles/sound and you will see how a 3rd gen is removed. basically, you have to pop off some plastic trim to get to the mirror screws. you have to remove the whole unit off the headliner to remove the mirror. there should also be a harness(-es) too.

from the sound of it, sounds like it would be best to remove the mirror and get an aftermarket one which glues onto the windshield itself.
