04 2.7 off roading

I was just wondering if anybody here has taken their 04 off road. Im wondering if it is like my 91 3.slow. I know as far as acceleration and speed it is better than my 91.

i don't know of any changes to the 2.7L for several years, if any. do you? my 2000 tacoma with the same engine is an exellent off road truck.

i am a pretty tame driver on or off road, and i use compound low gears liberally. for my driving style, it is amply powerful and torquey. with intake, exhaust and cooling mods, it could be racier. but i've put 85000 miles on it and am still not inclined to modify it much from stock.

my guess is that i would be less satisfied with an auto trans for off-roading though. that's my 0.02

I had an 89 with the 3.0 and it did fine. When I bought my 2001 2.7 I was shocked at the power it had, for a 4 banger. I have been wheelin' mine for 2 years now and love it, wouldn't trade it for anything.

4 LO is all you need anyways, the power doesnt really matter all that much.

I have the 2.7, and I love it! More than enough torque for anything I need it to do off-road, and good gas milage on road. Best part is that it has an excellent track record for durability, and has lived up to that my experiance. True, there have been times that I'm going uphill, in a head-wind with the kayak on the roof that I wish I had the 3.4, but overall......I couldn't be happier.

But.....maybe I'm spoiled......compared to my old Trooper, it's like driving a sports car.
