I know this has probably been discussed, but I am going to ask again. I want to lube up my antenna, so that it does not break again. I want to just lube up the metal part that is exposed (the actual antenna part). I was thinking about using Silicone spray. Does this stuff freeze. It is really cold here now and I don't want it freezing on me. That is why I don't want to use WD-40. Any one have any other ideas or can help. Thanks. :fireman:

 

Just keep it clean. Moisten a rag with lighter fluid or kerosene and clean any dirt off of the mast. Wipe the mast dry. No lubrication is necessary. If you feel you must, moisten another rag w/WD40 or any other silicone liberally. Any gunk that gets inside may cause premature failure.

 

I read the same thing a few days ago on another forum.
If you lube your antenna, it will fail.

It's best to just wipe it down.
I have never lubed mine, and it works great.

Plus it goes up & down several times a day whenever my door opens.
The antenna goes up as part of my alarm pager system, so it gets a healty workout.

It takes off all the crud and leaves it nice & clean. Don't apply any type of oil, it will only attract dirt and bind up in really cold weather (it was 5 deg. here in SE Wisconsin today).
