Where did you run your 4 guage power cable through the firewall at? Would anyone be willing to show me a pic of where you ran it through at?

What year are we talking about?
It is in the one pic that shows my battery.

I did have to remove the computer in the passenger side area to run it in, then just put the comp back in the same area.

You can also see where I ran the 4 gauge underneath the carpet and to the rear seat area where my distribution box is.

 

Corey, it's a '99 4-runner. Thanks for the reply. Looks like our batteries are on opposite ends of the engine bay, so your route probably won't work for me (assuming all else is different also) but you did give me some good ideas.

 

Ive got 0 guage run down the drivers side and to the battery. Easy to do.

 

Same rubber boot/grommet as the rest of the wires. Poke a hole, run wire(s) through.

 

I've run both a run of 1/0 inside as well as on the outside. I made my own hole and then used a grommet both times....

Excellent, thanks guys. Bob's page didn't show *where* he drilled the hole, but maybe I can locate it somehow by studying the picture against the firewall.

 

I did the same thing myself, and SOMEWHERE in his writeups he has a good description of it. Maybe on the CB thing. Nope, 12v writeup...

It's about an inch or three down and to the right (from the inside of the cab) of the original firewall gasket. (This is from memory, so that's just a general idea of the location)

Look at http://www.4runners.org/articles/cobra/index2.html under picture 'F'.

Then go into your truck in the drivers footwell, and peel back the padding at the upper left corner... You'll see something similiar to Bob's picture.

(Bob, sorry for shamelessly putting links to your stuff, but it's sooooo good!)

 

You can use the rubber grommet on the right-hand side of the engine bay, just use a knife and slice it and then push it through, I've got my fog wires and 0 gauge wire running through it...its a tight fit but it works out nicely in the end.

I hung it on the outside with some duct tape!

 

Since I'm the only one who mentioned running the wire outside of the body, I can't help but think that was directed at me.

FYI the wire is fully loomed and secured to the TOP of the frame rails using ultra heavy duty zip ties. The wire is heat shielded, fused at both ends, and is protected from the elements and any rocks should my rig go crawling.

 

What is the outside power supply for?
If its for your system, why did you choose to run it outside?

 

Bumpin, that's my plan so far. Hadn't considered a fuse at both ends though, that's a great idea.

 

4bangR, probably for the same reason as I'm doing it.

1) It's easy
2) No firewall holes to mess with
3) Keeps the 4guage away from speaker and RCA cabling for less chance of noise
4) More room to run heavier speaker wire and more RCA with less bulk under the carpet or door sills.

 

Exactly. Also I'd like to see someone run 4 runs of 1/0ga wire on the inside....lol I'm up to 2 so far, but I need another 2.
