Installing ARB locker on a 3rd Gen 4Runner

Hi all, I am trying to put locker to my 96Runner. Initially, I was trying to find a used Toyota e-locker with the axle assembly and front matching gear diffrential to do a direct swap without messing with the gear and stuff. But the cheapest I can find for the set-up cost about $1000. I am thinking to just go ahead and buy the ARB and do the installation myself. Is the installation pretty complicated or it can be done if I have time and that is not my primary vehicle? Part of the reason I wanna do it myself so that I can learn more stuff and know how it works. Thanks for any input and help

It's pretty much straightforward. The ARB instructions are clear and easy to follow. If you're going to regear, then have somebody with you who knows how to do the gears especially in setting the correct backlash. Be careful on the o-rings for the locker. Majority of leaks and problems comes from improper installation of the o-ring. Here are some sites to get some info.

Hope this helps.

If you need to ask about installing an ARB, but probably should not undertake the operation yourself.

Installing one requires resetting the gears which takes tools, experience and time that most novices do not have.
