Bendix is a key manufacturer of semi-truck air brake components.

They know their stuff!

Yeah I have semi truck parts on my 4runner. Ok I understand why I remembered that name, I use to drive a rig and somehow that name came up. Might have been printed on the airbrake handle or something. Oh well.

Where did you get your Bendix rear shoes? Any other recommendations for rear shoes other than Toyota OEM & Bendix? If so, where did you get them from? Any part numbers for the rear shoes would be appreciated. Thanks

i just redid my rear brakes with carquest parts. the blue shoes the bendix ones. they also carry a hardware kit, which is all new springs, retainers(for the holddown springs and the little horseshoe clips) and the pins that hold the shoes in place, definatly worth the few extra bucks.

This brings up a good question...do I have the original rear brakes on my 91? I don't think I've ever done em. I pull the drums on a regular basis, and I've adjusted them occassionally, but they still have plenty left on em. Everything seems to be in order, no leaky wheel cylinders or anything.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. I work at a brake shop and I've seen rear brakes last well over 100k miles on the 4runner. If you do replace the shoes, I would recommend replacing the wheel cyliners while your already in there. They're inexpensive and will prevent you from having leaks in the future which will destroy your new brake shoes.
