1983 Tranny X-member crushed, what do I do now?

I was being dumb, and slid my 1983 4x4 5spd onto a big rock. It smashed the cross-member and knocked the tranny up against the cab. Now, I need another, but JY pickins for an 83 are slim. So, what I'm wondering, are there any aftermarket suppliers? Any tricks to welding up a new one? Any other years that cross over?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

good aint cheap, and cheap aint good. If you're going to be bashing it on rocks get something that will last. Its more than worth the investment

The old Saying "BUY CHEAP BUY TWICE " goes good here. Do it right the first time.

buildbuilt would definitely get my vote. however, i KNOW '79-83 crossmembers are all the same, and '84-up might fit as well

Buy a BudBuilt and forget about it. They may cost a bit, but they're the best out there. Not only do they provide much better protection compared to stock, they increase your ground clearance. I'm 100% satisfied with mine.

just so this isnt a one sided promotion, sky-manufacturing also sells very nice crossmembers. I have one, its completely adjustable vertically to accomidate a drivetrain lift for a true flat belly. Nothing to drag on the rocks is even better ! Budbuilt also makes crossmembers for drivetrain lifts buy you have to custom order it and cant change it after that.

Good point. I wish I could raise my drivetrain (my junk is beat to the point that I don't mind hacking the tranny tunnel out), but I'm stuck with the standard height BudBuilt for now. Sky's x-member wasn't around when I got mine, or I definitely would have considered it.

Where are you at? I have an 85 I'm parting out. If it is not the same as yours, there is a JY here that has an 82 and an 83, but he sometimes thinks his parts are gold plated family heirlooms. I can ask.

you could buy this oneexpensive wallet killer
i hear they take half the money you spend, switch it out at the bank for sacagawea dollars, melt it down and make your crossmember with the old sacagaweas. plus it gives you more clearance, and it's painted in red! guaranteed to add 5-10 hp. if used in combination with a trd sticker you can reach gains of almost 30 hp!
