sch 40 pipe questions.

ok, im not a complete idiot and going to ask if pipe is the same as tube, but i do need to know if one of those cheap hydro benders that harbor frieght sells will bend sch 40 pipe and not kink it etc? i plan on making bumpers and sliders out of it cause i imagine its plenty strong if you get it kinda thick, or am i a complete cluesless idiot?

the HF bender will work fine with some practice. for bumpers and sliders, pipe is perfectly fine, for a cage, well thats another debate entirely

Clueless idiot!

J/K! Uh, don't take this personal but SCH 40 only comes in one thickness per diamter of pipe. That is why it is called SCH 40! You can't get it kinda thick...unless you get a different SCH!

ANSI Pipe Schedule
2" diamter SCH 40 = 0.154" thick
2.5" diameter SCH 40 = 0.203" thick
3" diameter SCH 40 = 0.216" thick

Check out pipe versus thread on PBB.

Also read here about doing this exact thing.

Pipe is sometimes O.K. to work with for things like bumpers, sliders, etc. I built part of my front bumper out of pipe, because I could buy 90 degree bends that could be welded in place (I don't own a tube bender). One thing to remember, however, is that pipe is sized differently. For example, '1 inch' pipe is actually 1.315 inches in diameter. It might be difficult to find the right bender dies to fit pipe.
