I bought an SR5 cluster for my 85 4Runner but the mileage is off by 60,000 and I would prefer to set it to the correct mileage. Has anyone succesfully done this in a 1st Gen? I did a search but did not find any help.

 

You should be able to easily rotate the number with anything sharp. They will skip gears and turn.

 

I tried messing with the original speedo so i don't screw up the SR5 one but it's not as easy as 60's and 70's cars were. There is a bar that goes across the numbers that I thought locked them in place so I bent it a tad and the numbers rotate but not all the way around so that doesn't work.

"On the spindle that forms the axis of the odometer gearwheels, there's a
small black "C" clip beside the leftmost mileage digit wheel (100,000's).
Pull this clip out carefully. Now you can 'unstack' each and every digit
wheel and uncoupling them with the in-between spacer disks by shifting them
to left along the spindle. Turn each digit wheel independently to your
current mileage (some evil thoughts may pop up at this time .... resist the
temptation!) Re-insert the "C" clip on the odometer spindle and reassemble
