Land Cruiser's rule... plain and simple....

But seriously... depends on your type of wheeling.

I'd never take an FJ40 out for the trip I took last summer. 70 miles @ 2 mph in the heat of Canyonlands National Park? Uh-uh.... 80 series cruiser... A/C, leather, and my ARB fridge. I even embarassed some Heeps while out there...

Rock crawling? Hmm... that's different... maybe an FJ40 w/ 1-ton's?

Muddin? Ugh. IH8MUD.

I'd hope you wouldn't take a $65000 rig offroad... sounds like you're referring to a NEW 100 series cruiser. They're great for fire roading and camping... but for EXTREME wheeling, I'd leave that at home and pick up a cheaper rig... say an 87 Yota and SAS it or something.

1979-85 pickup, 1984-85 4runner, these do excellent off road, cheap to lift and repair, and you can pick one up for under 5000, most under 2000, and it wont dent your wallet when you hit a tree

Depends on your idea of offroading...

The Rav4 is a car. A small, slow, cheap, easy to break car. Teenage girls love em...
The Highlander is a car. (it's based on the Camry, a very good car...) But it's pretty nice.
The 4Runner is still 'essentially' ruck based. Lose the stupid running boards and go whereever you want - it can take it.
The Sequoia is based on the Tundra. It can take a beating just fine, but WILL take a beating if you take it on trails.
The Landcruiser...aahh the Landcruiser, the most expensive vehicle to ever bear the Toyota badge. Odd duck the Landcruiser - it has the best offroad equipment, it's the strongest and most off road capable SUV Toyota builds, yet it only comes in shamefull luxury... IF ya got the dough - you will never regret buying one of these and taking it off road. OR- buy a Highlander AND a Taco....

Trucks - what can you say? Toyota still makes trucks. They still have Ground Clearance. They will still take you where you want to go, take a beating and will bring you home. Really hard to say that about a Nissan or a Ranger or an S10....

everyone has their own wants in a off road truck.. personally i have alot built up in my engines.. handbuild by me.. the truck its a 89 pickup.. 4x4 of course and is currently in the process of getting a soild front axle.. its plush on the inside so you forget all about the mud flug all over the outside or hanging half way down a gorge.. and personally when im out on the trail and i see all these guys there there four-runners im glad i have a pickup.. cuz i get a great view when im campin under the stars. but like i said.. its all about prefrences.. i like 1st gen.. youll find people that like a completly different spectrum of trucks and SUVs.. but for me.. give me my 89 yoda anyday.

rock on,
matt

It is a company vehicle. He is the owner but gets to write off this thing for his 'business'. Tax breaks you know.

Are you talking about a new toyota? Bone stock?

My guess would be a taco with the e-locker. Sequoia/LC are too big for the trails around here, not sure what you're used to though. 4Runner is basically a Taco, but no locker option any more ( ). Rav4 and Highlander are my generation's version of the station wagon.

Get a taco with the locker, dump the running board/nerf bars/step rails, whatever it comes with and put some good ATs/MTs on it and you're set.
