my check engine light came on , checked the code it was for the egr. the guy told me to try cleaning the egr and egr temp sensor which were both filthy with carbon. i cleared the code and two days latter the code is back. i read in the book that it could be the filter in the egr modulator. does anyone know how to determine weather its the egr valve, the egr modulator, or the egr temp sensor?????? any way to narrow it down or should i just replace all three..

 

My step-mom's '96 LC had a code for the egr at one time. I was told that it could be 3 things: egr valve, modulator, and VSV. So I'm not sure about the temp sensor but my bet is that isn't the problem. Anyways, I replaced the egr and the light came back on after about 30 mins. I then replaced the modulator and that took care of the problem. I think the modulator was about $60 if I remember correctly. It had about 125K miles at the time.

weel i tried just cleaning out the filter on the modulator and light was back on the next day. i did a vacume test on the egr valve and it was working good so i got the new egr modulator trew it in and no problems!!!!! thanks for the help...
