I'm in the process of cleaning up some alloy wheels I have recently purchased. Once I am done, I plan to buy another set of tires. I currently have 235/75R15s. I was thinking about going to 31x10.50R15s so I can a little bit more ground clearance.

My truck is stock. Are there any problems with upgrading to this size, especially since I have the 2.7L?

Plus, I need to make sure that the 31x10.50R15s can fit this type wheel? Anyone know that too?

 

My 1999 Tacoma ex cab 2.7L, 5 speed came with 31x10.5x15 from the factory. You should not have any problems. The rim you have pictured are the exact rims that are on mine.

 

my '99 reg cab came with 265/75/15's which are approx. 31's, i think that if the Tacoma came with alloys, then 31's were the tire that came on it, i am guessing that yours came with steel wheels?

 

My old Tacoma had those wheels stock with the 31" tires. You need to check the axle code. I think mine was 4.10. I also had a 93 truck with the 235/75/15 tires and steel wheels. I put the 31's off my 4Runner on the rear one day to see what it was like. No noticible power loss, but they were on only 4 hrs.

Yeah, my truck currently has the steel wheels on it. I have to remove the clearcoat off one more of the alloys before I can get some tires put on. I wouldn't be taking off the clearcoat, but the wheels I bought turned out to be kinda rough when they arrived-they were probably on a model older than mine. The 3 I've already finished look good though-just so time consuming.

But, in the meantime I can price around for the 31s.

I had those size tires on my 89 4-banger, and it was fine.

 

I'll second the "check the gearing". That's what really matters.

i went from 195/70/14s on my 1985 toyota pickup 4x2 all the way to 31s..... a noticeable power loss, but i can still drive it fine.....
