Where should I order my gears from?

Okay I've put this off long enough. I need my 4.88's! Where should I order them from and what brand? Also what ones do I order. Obviously I'm not a turbo but is a 2nd Gen 7 1/2 or 8 inches?
Thanks guys... sure I could find this info out but I'm being lazy..

8" rear and 7.5" front. Randy's has the best deal going right now - they call it an internet special. Should still be $389 for Yukon gears with master overhaul kit. While you're having them being re-geared, might as well add some sort of locker....

Sounds like a great deal from Randy's, especially if they are throwing in front and rear master kits!!!

If it's $389 for front and rear, that's an insane deal. If it's just one end, it's just so-so.

Thanks Mike...Where'd you get that price from? They have a special going for $509 but that's it.

1979-1995 Toyota Truck 4CYL/V6/Turbo
Yukon Gear Master Overhaul kits (with Timken or OEM bearings) Ratio 4.10, 4.56, 4.88, (excludes V6 trucks w/ Factory 4.88's, call for pricing on 5.29's)
Price: $509.99*

Holy crap! That price went up alot since I bought mine 3-4 weeks ago. I think Alex at Performance Off Road Center can beat those numbers. Let me dig up an old PM from him over on Pirate...

EDIT: Here's what I had from PORC for Yukon's:

7.5 5.29=$149
v6 5.29=$109.99
7.5 master=$99(v6)
v6 rear master=$89

This was from the end of March.

Glad to hear your gearing up your rig Joey. How are things? I went with Reider Racing & got my 5.29s, master install kits, & a Detroit EZ locker for the rear for $996. The gears were Precision and I have had ZERO problems to this day. I love it. I just got back from Spokane yesterday. Was able to cruise at 80 there and back with ease. You will be glad once you get those gears in. congrats. Ben

Call Brain or Mike @ Rockstar Trux or Mike or Pat @ Kartek. We get all of our parts from both of those shops, they have killer prices and huge inventory. Rockstar also does insanely high quality custom fab work. Yukon gears are great I have their 4.88's in my 4Runner and they are holding up great.

Kartek
(909) 737-7223

Rockstar Trux
(408) 295-5055

tell them Sean & Jesse from Trails Less Traveled sent ya!

my experience was with Randy's:

Basically the guy quoted me like 600 somethin for Yukon 4.88's and master install kits fr/rr.

I was like "whoa, ok thanks I'm just price shopping". Then all of sudden he's like well there's this internet deal goin on, it's for older rigs 95 and under, but lemme see what I can do for you. Comes back and says well today only, I can get you everything for 499. I was like sweeeeet. Had to make a decision there and ended up goin with them. Customer service was pretty good, parts came in when they said they would. Pretty quickly, half shipped out of washington and other shipped out of tennessee.

Since you have an older rig I would expect the cost of your parts to be A LOT cheaper, especially with the internet deal with Randy's. Try to mention that, if you want, call Micah ext. 5560 at Randy's. He was real nice and hooked me up.

PORC from pirate also gave me a quote, I think his was pretty cheap too. you might want to look into both.

edit: this is what I got quoted for 4.56's from PORC

Yes, the 4.56 gears will work you Just have to use an extra .150 thousandths shim- $139.99
Is that a 7.5 IFS up front.- $139.99
7.5 V6 -$95.99
8" v6-$89.99

Shipping- $27

Thanks,

Ted

Good luck

I used Drivetrain Direct for a Precision geared third and some straight Precision gears. Prices were good, service was great. I would use them again.

Also look at PORC. I have exchanged e-mails about a number of purchases and their replies as well as prices were impressive.

Overnight service from Randy.... pretty sweet. Was quoted $150 for the install if I take in just the carriers and not the rig. Sound reasonable?
