Question Gear grinding noise when vehicle at a standing stall or rolls back

Hi,

I own a 2004 4Runner SR5 V8 2WD. Once in a while when I drive my SUV into my garage, you know from the driveway into the garage there is a small step or bump; if I don't give it enough gas, the vehicle try to cross the step then it standing stall or rolls back. My question here is that when the vehicle is trying to move up that step/hump and it stands stall or kind of rolling back, it make this weird grinding noise or rather sounds like loud ticking noise until I press the gas pedal harder to get the vehicle move past that step/bump. I'm not sure whether it comes from the transmission or the rear end.

Does anyone hear this grinding/loud ticking noise on your 03-04 4Runner when your vehicle is in drive and you are going up a hump or hill and it stands stall or rolls back.

Is this grinding/loud ticking noise normal or should I bring it back to the dealer and let them check it out?

I was wondering is this the hill-assist start making that noise or whatever feature in this vehicle.

Anyone has any idea?

Would someone with a 2004 4Runner V8 2WD, try to do the same thing I'm doing to see if your 4Runner is making that same noise.

Thank you in advance

Jack

It's the hill assist. Mine does the same thing. Scared the #$%^ out of me the first time it happened.
