Question Deckplate - When to use Cover?

I have had the deckplate mod for about a week, and wanted to know how often folks put on their cover? I know that most people had said that they put it on when they are doing some serious off-roading, but what about rain?

Do most of you folks put it on when it's raining?

I never use mine in the rain. I'd only use it if I were out in some sloppy wet mud or making a water crossing.

I do not put it on for rain, I only put it on for water crossing and dusty off roading.

by the way, where do you get a deckplate? i've looked around and haven't been able to find a 4 inch one, i think that's the size mentioned in the write ups.

Yeah, I got mine at West Marine in SF. There's a few in the LA area too.

We are expecting quite the monsoon rain here for the next few days, I guess I can just leave the deckplate off. I was just curious if any rain conditions (hard rain) prompted some folks to screw on their lid.

Thanks for all the replies!

If it is going to be an actual monsoon and you are worried, take the 5 seconds to screw the lid on...even if just for peace of mind. You wont need the extra ponies in a monsoon anyhow.

I've only had my deckplate mod for a few weeks and haven't screwed the cover in yet either and probably won't...generally. Water crossings, which I rarely do, at least anywhere near that high, probably not because I'm not too worried about splashing from shallow creeks. By the way, we DO have rain in Portland... contrary to popular opinion.

But I was wondering about dust. I'm in the desert a lot and even though the hole is open, my filter is still in there filtering, so I'm not sure why to close it up if it's dusty. I'm usually the only rig so I don't think the dust in the front is too bad??

What do you think??

Mick

Personal preference so you dont have to clean it (washable air filter) as often.
