I have an 1985 4runner FI straight axle 5spd. 22RE engine has 229000 miles and runs great except for one thing. When I start it up in the morning, it blows a black, sutty water-like substance from the tail pipe. It uses 1 qt of oil every 2 weeks. I have been thinking of rebuilding the engine. I have been told that the ideal engine swap was from a Tacoma 3.4L V-6. Does anybody have any feedback on this swap? If so, is it CA smog legal? I know I would have to do the engine and tranny, as well as the computer, swap as well, I heard it will double the horsepower. Any advice will help
