Yesterday was a big mod day around my home.
I had the old bumper off and the new TJM T-15 on by around 9am. Then I installed my new 6 circuit fuse block with 8 gauge wire and HHX in-line Maxi fuse holder. Then I started on the CB install. I got as far as the antenna mount. I decided to go with Bob's rear mount of a 4' Firestik II. Hopefully today, after some errands I will finish the CB and get started on the PIAA Fogs.

I still have not received a satisfactory answer regarding the factory fog light question I posed in another thread. Can I tap into the existing fog light wiring down by the bumper for these 85 watt 520's? I know the factory fogs use a relay and a 15 amp fuse. My new lights should draw 14.1 amps. Also, if so, which wire is the ground on the factory fogs? I have not found a wiring schematic yet.

I considered using the factory fog wiring but I also could not get a good answer on what they could handle, and I had just installed my new fuse block, so I ran new wires and installed a factory switch on the dash.

PS. Can you add some details to your sig line like tire size, slider brand etc.....

 

for the wiring, I would just go ahead and run bigger wires and relays/fuses for the lights. it's just better to be safe than sorry after a fire because you tried to cut cost and time by using existing stuff. you can still use the factory switch, just run bigger wire.

Yeah, you are right about the wire size. I tend to overbuild anyway.
I just don't know how to use the cool rotating signal arm switch while using different wiring. If I knew which wires to tap into I guess I could remove the fog fuse and relay and use my own (which was my original plan anyway). Perhaps I will just use the Toyota Dash Mount Switch I already bought.

That is going back to original. Grampa had it new, and I have restored a radio, heater and am waiting for the cash for paint and body (though the body is way straight). The funds have been heading to the 4Runner lately...

 

The $10 one? that's the one I use for my LightForces on my TJM. It looks nice and stock like..

While I can certainly appreciate, to a certain extent, the skill and craftsmanship that goes into a custom car, I will almost always choose something brought back to full factory showroom goodness.

I ordered it. I do not know of anyone that sells them in the LA area. Where in SoCal are you? Someone posted recently that they had a great deal on them somewhere, 4x4connection (I think). I think Mike at Extreme matches their price. I would have ordered from him but I needed to order the week he was moving. He is great and service is great.

I used the factory fog light and relay system to activate my new relay for the Hella 4000's I installed. Just wire in the 520's with the supplied wiring kit, but run the switch wire to the fuse box, then pull the fog relay bend out one of the tabs and connect to it. George, You can come over tomorrow, during the wrench-a-thon and I'll show you what I did. The stock wiring looked a bit too smal to handle the load of my 100w's.

If you don't have a wiring kit, I have a spare one here...

Bruce, I am in church until around 12:30. I will try and stop by afterward if possible. Hopefully by then the CB will be fully in and the fogs will be close. I would love to see how you did the fogs. It just seems like such a waste to scrap the cool switch (the one on the lamp arm) and all that stock wire.
