Hi all, I finally got my bushwacker extend a fenders for my 97 4runner! I had quite the time trying to get the right ones from JCwhitney. Anyhow, they are here, and the instructions leave a bit to be desired but I think I can see how they will go together.

I am kind of worried about drilling through the rear doors though, any thoughts/experiences or tips on installing these puppies?

I have read about drilling holes in the ends to flush them out, does anyone have a pic of how this was done? A 1 inch hole seems kinda big.

i put flares on my tacoma, all i had to do was install the rubber edgeing and bolt them on, there is no drilling on tacomas, at least for the bushwhacker flares that are a little bigger than factory 98-00 TRD's, mine used the factory screw holes that hold the stock crome/rubber strip on, good luck

 

Yeah, they actually sent me some for a Tacoma which I do have and noticed that same thing but on the 4runner the rear door doesnt have enough room to attach to the body but has to be rivited onto the door itself which means you have to drill through the lower edge of the door. Just looking for any tips on the install so I dont end up with a bunch of extra holes that might rust.

You will have to drill into the rear doors. It should only take two holes for each door to attach the inner template. All the other flares should attach with just screws and rivets and no more drilling. As for the flush holes, they don't hav to be enormous, just big enough that you can shoot a good stream of water up in there. I haven't even drilled any for mine yet, but probably will soon just to stay on the safe side. Good luck and let us know if you have any more questions.

its hard to tell from the diagram, but on the rear doors, does the inner bracket go on the outside or inside of the door? Any recomendations on ways to prevent rust problems with rivits or screws going through the sheet metal? Also are there tips on getting things lined up, like putting things on in a certain order? Sorry for the many questions, I just dont like drilling through the door sheet metal.
