Off-road tires on 17" rims

My friend just got an '03 4Runner sport and went to get some more agressive tires for it, Big-O and Firestone both told him that there are no off-road tires for the 17" rims. Is this correct? Will he have to buy new 16" rims if he wants decent off-road tires?

thanks in advance

There are but they usually run 37"+. Anything smaller isn't gonna be a decent offroad tread.

Unfortunately, there aren't any 16 wheels that will fit the 4th gen sports model. The brakes are a whee bit too big for the 16's.

Wheelers Offroad has some steelies that claim to fit their 16" on the stock 17" owners but there has been no direct testing yet so that's still uncertain.

Good luck. Btw, BFG MT's I believe has some 285's in the 17 trim.

The BFG A/T KO is available in a 265/65-17, this is 1" larger diameter than stock.
The Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo is available in the stock 265/65-17.

I have used my 265/70R17 revo's on some rather extreme off roading and they do very well. I bought them at Firestone and got three for the price of four.
