Not sure what this part is, but it makes a noise. (2nd gen)

I just noticed this tonight. That part pictured above makes a buzzing noise after I shut off the engine. It sounds like there is a bee trapped inside.

What is it, what does it do, and why is it buzzing?

Thats your evaporative canister. It takes fumes that are evaporating from your tank and funnels it into your engine rather than the atmosphere. It has a valve in it that may be failing. Or you may have a problem with maintaing a vacuum. Check 1-16 in chilton or 181 in haynes to diagnose.
