Searching For: Weatherstrip Assy, Back Door Glass, Inner Part #: 68170-89114
Hello all,
Looking for a Weatherstrip Assy, Back Door Glass, Inner Part #: 68170-89114. I have been looking far and wide and have not yet been able to find one. Replacing all the seals and weatherstrips in my 1st gen and this is the only one I was not able to find genuine OEM or a Fairchild replacement for. Does anyone know where to get these?
Thanks!
Franklin

You won't find unless you stumble across a used one in decent condition.
It's been a couple of years, but I replaced my inner with an outer one(68160-89111). As I recall it was easier than I hoped for and only took some minor modification.

The part number for the clips
outside weatherstrip(belt molding) clip 68211 89107
inside belt molding clip 68211-89106
I remember them being slightly different, maybe one a bit longer?
I'm not quite sure what you mean by restore. You can clean the weatherstrip with any solvent and a rag to get any environmental fallout grime off(it does help). If you're dealing with one that's distorted you can try putting it in boiling water for a minute. but the length of a tailgate belt molding, and where the issue is, could make that problematic.
There's plenty of stuff out there claiming to restore plastic and vinyl, but it's really just a topical band-aid. A polymer solvent, "plasticizer", is added to the material when it's first made to give it flexibility. Over time, the chemical degrades and the components gets stiffer and more brittle. Nothing will bring that back, unfortunately.
