Should new pilot bearing slide on input shaft?

I am putting a new engine in my '95, I ordered a new Asin clutch kit, it has a brand new Koyo bearing in the kit, the issue is that when I attempt to slide the bearing on the input shaft it only goes on about a quarter inch, I am thinking this should slide all the way on the input shaft, correct?

You've not got an answer yet, so I'll be first to show my ignance.
The pilot bearing = that goes into the flywheel - supports the very small necked down part of trans input shaft. So yes, your bearing must fit over the smaill pointy part of input shaft.
Unless I'm totally missing what you're asking.

Shouldn't take more than a little dressing of the tranny snout with some moderately fine carborundum paper to permit the bearing to pass.

If you aren't sure about your inpt shaft, try running your fingernail, if you have any, down each groove on the input shaft, and feel for burrs/anything sticking up. Same with the bearing. Don't use a dental tool. Not sensitive enough. If you can't use your finger nail get your wife or girlfriend, or both, to help Generally, they get a kick out of helping mechanic husbands/boyfriends do something mechanical, especially on a vehicle they use, even on occaision.

Yes it should freely slide on the shaft with about 2-3 thousands clearance. It is there to support the front of the shaft from the weight of the clutch disc while shifting
