Toyota Tacoma brake question and other general info

I've got an 03 Tacoma Doublecab... I've noticed for a long time that the brakes just aren't that great. About 5000 miles ago I had the fluid changed and the brakes checked.. Mechanic said there was plenty of life left on the pads. I've felt like for a long time the brakes haven't been that good (maybe as long as I've had the truck).. Is this a common problem?

Also, I've had the truck for a little over a year now and have 30,000 miles... What should be done at this point as far as maitenence? I drive the truck a lot. I do the normal oil changes of course but as far as that I really haven't done much else. Is there anything specific I should look into?

I still realllly wanna get the supercharger but simply can't afford it right now

thanks a lot in advance,
nags

First of all, you might be surprised about the mileage you get out of the pads. I got 45K miles on my old Taco out of the first pads.

You may want to have a look at the rear brakes and make sure they are adjusted properly. Tacoma's actually have a very short stopping distance for a truck, so if you really feel you have a significant worry, then I would seek dealer assistance (since you are under warranty). Whatever you do, do not go to Midas.
