Ordered new door hinges from PartSouq to replace the sagging worn out hinges on my '91 Pickup. Figured I could do new pins and bushings but for a little less work just replace the whole hinges with new.
When I was in there I noticed the factory hinges on the body side have seam sealer either smeared around the edge of the hinge or applied to the underside of the hinge and smooshed against the body when installed.
Anyone ever replace these hinges before? What did you do regarding the seam sealer, remove all the old stuff and apply new? Apply it to the mounting face of the hinge or pipe it around the hinge after it's installed and tightened down?
I resealed my hinges just before painting the door jams. I got a seam sealer caulk tube from the parts store. I think Dynatron was the brand I used. Definitely NOT like DAP silicone caulk. More like the self-leveling caulk used on RV’s in term of consistency

yep, Dynatron is what I use. Did you apply it to the hinges after installing them around the edge or to the backside beforehand (between the hinge and the body)? I can’t tell if from the factory they applied sealer between the hinge and the body or just around the edge of the hinge.
Bolt the hinge in and torque, then apply sealer all the way around the edge. You don’t apply to the bolt heads, though.
afterwards, you can paint the sealer with the same paint you use on the hinge to make it less noticeable
Thanks! I was hoping I could swap the hinges with the fender off and the door closed to keep
things lined up but it’s looking like I’ll need space to get all that old seam sealer off.
