94 Pickup blowing whitish gray smoke/losing power on semi-steep incline
I have on two different occasions had my 94 pickup start blowing huge amounts of whitish gray smoke when traveling up steep inclines. One in first gear and the other in second gear at different rpm’s. It loses power to the point of not moving any further and I have to turn around. Any help on what might be the problem? There is no coolant loss and the truck has burned very little oil in about 1500 miles since the last change.
thanks

Sounds like a head gasket getting fatigued but Im sure a smarter man than I will chime in? I lost my head gasket after 10K miles of a new rebuild on my 22R. I think there was a batch of bad gaskets going around because several guys were complaining about the same thing and I cured the problem using a toyota manufacturered head gasket. Im up to 35K on the new gasket with no issues.
I had one morning it started smoking real bad again and started to freak out but turns out that the humidity level was abnormally high and creating the whitish smoke, hasnt done it since.

A block combustion leak tester would rule out headgasket, but I'm thinking that after that you should do a leak down test.
The block tester is great for detecting the presence of combustion gas in the cooling system, but the leak down test can give you more specific info for each cylinder.
Both tools might be available in your local chain parts store loaner program. The block tester is only $38 on amazon otherwise. You will need a small compressor for the leak down test.
Watching some decent how-to Youtube videos before running the tests can be helpful.
edit:
The more info you can get before any disassembly will pay dividends, and give you key info on what to focus on while taking things apart.
