I ordered Koyo bearings and a brush holder(27370-xxxxx) from Amayama.
The brush holder comes with the brushes already installed.
The one part that would be nice to replace, but is pricey, is the ic regulator. But Denso IC regulators are amazingly solid. It's the one Alternator component that really makes them stand out compared to some of their competitors.

I see one of the copper races that the brushes run on is badly worn- is this replaceable?

I have rebuilt several Ford alternators where I changed the slip rings.
I expect that Denso slip rings can be changed as well.
I see the parts available on Ebay.
Some soldering is required.
I did find it necessary once to true the new ring assembly concentric to the rotor axis with my small lathe.
Most people would junk a rotor with bad slip rings, or offer their bad alternator as core exchange on a commercially rebuilt one.

Ya- not gonna get that deep into it (lathe). This is a junkyard core I got for a spare- don't like the looks of some of the other components either.

Leaning towards this type. Or a 1990 Supra for 80A.

The shipping has killed alot of deals for me. New alternators aren't a bad deal- on Rock I see Remy offering new and reman at the same price.

Interesting that I keep seeing your responses in this thread- looking at the Jaguar alternator. Not quite finished yet but I have a concern about terminal wiring, some say the plug is good to go or it needs a Toyota regulator installed to work 100%, I do have the regulator off this core or a new Denso is $30 assuming it bolts in.

I like Denso- First Time Fit, and have no shame in saying I prefer good used oem take offs.

Pulled a tested used Denso Jaguar 120A unit off of fleabay, will do a bit of clean up, check brushes and massage the case to fit.

The jag unit has the same physical plug as the Toyota unit, but one of the terminals is a 'dummy' terminal vs '+' sensing on the Toyota- any problems changing out the voltage regulator of the the Toyota version? Its an exact fit- but don't know about function.
