86 Pickup hesitation on acceleration, and gas cutting in and out
I have an 86 Toyota pickup, 2wd manual 22r that's been having some problems. At first my cat clogged up, and I was forced to cut it out or it wouldn't run at all. Then the truck began hesitating when accelerating, and began dying while idle. I found out that tuning the carb to a lean idle caused it to stop dying, but I still didn't know what was wrong. Now it's gotten worse. While driving the gas randomly cuts in and out, causing the truck to buck and the tires to squeal. It's no longer drivable and I would really like to get it fixed.
Things I've tried:
At this point I'm suspecting the fuel pump, carburetor, or igniter. If anybody has dealt with something like this before or has an idea of what might be wrong, any help would be hugely appreciated.
Things I've tried:
- Tune up
- Carb cleaner
- Seafoam and other additives
- Tuning carb
- Replacing cap and rotor
- Replacing mechanical fuel pump
- Replacing fuel filter
- Checking for vacuum leaks
