VSS issues

Hey Everyone,

I’m new here.

Here’s my problem:
In 2022 I had the automatic transmission on my 1992 2wd pickup rebuilt. Before the rebuild the speed sensor was working just fine, the odometer wasn’t working but the speed was displaced on the speedometer. After the rebuild my speedometer no longer functioned.

I have finally decided to look into this problem and have located the VSS on the tranny but haven’t been able to fix the issue. I doubt the VSS is bad. I’m leaning towards a broken wire or a disconnected wire on behalf of the mechanic’s fault. After the rebuilt I gave him a call and he told me to bring it in and he’d fix it under warranty. However, when I brought it he wasn’t there and I just forgot about it until now.

My question is, does anyone on here have a wiring diagram for the VSS? I mean where exactly does the connection from the tranny go to? Somewhere under the hood right? Or maybe fuses? I’d appreciate your help. TIA.

For what it's worth, automatic transmission systems have two speed sensors. One at the transfer case (typical three wire VSS, with power, ground, and signal), and one in the transmission itself.

Are you throwing any codes?
