Speedometer Not Working When First Starting Off
94 Toyota Ex-Cab 4X4 3.0 Auto Electric Speed sensor
My speedometer will not work when first starting truck. Odometer works, transmission shifts ok and no codes. After it does start it works fine until the next time it sits for awhile. Short stops don't seem to affect it only prolong stops. It first started working shortly after starting, within 2 or 3 miles but now sometimes it may go 30 miles before it will start working. After it starts there is no bouncing or erractic moves works smooth. Anyone ever had this problem. I figure speed sensor works correctly since odometer work when speedometer doesn't, transmission is getting readings from speed sensor because it shifts correctly and speedometer works correctly after it decides to start. It's sure puzzles me!! Any ideas??

I've had a similar problem with my speedometer in the winter time. It either doesn't work or it makes this buzzing sound and goes from like 60 to 100, when I'm going over 50Mph. I took it to a Toyota Dealer and they said it would cost like 500 to fix and it was a loose wire. I've asked a few shops and found you can get it fixed for around 100-150ish. Good Luck

If you have an electronic speedo, these symptoms can happen. Mine started out similar, would act up randomnly but odometer would still work. One day it started getting worse and then it started messing with the transmission. That's when I changed the speed sensor and fixed it. The part was the cheapest at the dealer, oddly enough. Took less than 5 min. to change.
Make sure you know if you have a speedo cable or electronic speedo.
